Spring cleaning for my vortech's :)

Hey guys, it's time to clean my 2 MP40s as they are just filled with algae and what not.
Problem is, vortech says to soak it in vinegar and water but before hand remove the nozzle, which to my understanding is the cage.
That is my problem!, my cage is filthy!, and I tried removing it with brushes and what not, nothing cleanes it.
Can I soak my cage overnight with no worry?

I just soak the whole assembly in vinegar. Since the whole wet side is encrusted with coralline, it takes a bit of soaking to get the cage to separate from the base. Once it separates, it makes it a piece-o-cake to clean.

Soak it in straight white vinegar. Take it apart so everything gets cleaned good. I have 3 and a spare wetside. When I clean them, I just replace one wetside with the spare, soak and clean the dirty one, and rotate them through till they are all clean.

No, they are the same. Some companies will label "white vinegar" and some won't. Just don't buy the other types, such as cider vinegar.

If you have never taken it apart and it runs great I see no need to disassemble the entire wet side. I would just soak the entire wet side in vinegar. You want to pull the back cover off so you can see the magnet. It pulls strait off easily.
