Coral Coloration
I need some advice. I think my tank is doing well. All the params are good - PH 8.0, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 0, Phosphates 0, Calcium 380, Alk 8dkh. My SPS are showing good polyp extensions and are even showing new growth, my Acans are plump/fat, my leather is also showing good polyp extentions. However, my chalices are somewhat pale or when I look at my tank, I'm not really sure if the color is that great. Am I missing something that I should be using? Also, I've been dosing Vodka (about 0.7ml in the beginning but I've dropped it down to 0.5ml) and I've also been dosing Amino Acids to help in coral growth.

I'd say that 380 calcium is a little low. And the 8 dkh could be argued to be on the low side as well. If you dosed and got those two higher, it'd raise your pH a little, also. This COULD be an issue.
I do believe I've read some things about vodka dosing and coral coloration. Somebody needs to back me up. Are you feeding the corals? And of course light placement would probably be the most obvious thing. |
