Micro bubbles galore!

I bought a week old coralife super skimmer 220 for my 180 reef (I know it's no where good enough of a skimmer for the tank, but at the moment it only has a tomini tang and a blue reef chromis so it's only temporary). Anyway I finally got the skimmer set to skim as efficiently as possible, but the return is flooding my sump with bubbles that are being passed through a sponge filter and a prefilter on the pump and my tank looks like a giant aerator. I tried using the bubble difuser, but it just breaks the bubbles into even smaller ones. Does anyone have any suggestions? Besides buy a new skimmer. That's not really an option right now.

Thanks
Drew

The bubbles should slow down some as it gets slimed (seasoned), I'd leave let it do its thing for a week or so and then look at changes.

Meanwhile run the skimmer return into a filter sock. This will stop the bubbles.

I'm actually returning my 125 into a small media bag. Works great.

Well I had the skimmer running before and I wasnt getting near as many bubbles as I am now, but I adjusted it to produce thicker skimmate. I'll try the filter sock, but is there anything else I could do if that doesn't help?

You could always put another bubble trap in with baffles. I think the previous mentioned solutions will work fine though.

I'm sorry to say it is not a great skimmer. Most of the fish stores where I live don't sell them any more. Eventually you will upgrade to a better skimmer. If your adding any water conditioners, that will also cause micro bubbles.
