ich and formalin

I have not noticed much talk on here about using formalin for treatment of ich. I had ich show up on a clown right before I was leaving on a week long vacation. Guy at LFS said he has treated with formalin and the spots immediately disappeared. the poor clown did have a bad case and I was afraid he wouldnt make it until I got back. So right before leaving I removed him from DT put in QT and treated for an hour with formalin. He came out of treatment with white spots gone and was returned to DT. I really thought I would just be providing some immediate relief and holding things at bay, hopefully, until I returned and could do a full treatment. It has been about a month now with no visible ich.

I will be pulling all fish from DT and treating them in QT while leaving DT fallow to get rid of the ich that I'm sure is still there.


I'm really considering using formalin in QT instead of copper. I used a heavier concentration for just an hour, there was also instructions for how to use for a longer QT type treatment.

I use herbtana from microblift. When I get a new fish I qt them in this and then add the fish to the system and add a little to my DT. It has worked great with out problem to my reef
