unique cycling question

If I have cured LR, meaning it was in a tank for over several years, along with Live sand, again been in another tank for years and I put some established tank water, from my QT tank (no meds in water) should I safely be able to avoid a cycle?

whats your advice

assuming this is coming from a running tank, my advice would be to carefully remove some of the sand from the top layer on the old tank without disturbing the rest of the sandbed too much. place your live rock in the new tank and fill in around it with a mixture of the old sand and new clean dry sand. once you have all that set in the new tank with all of the other necessities like heater, plumbing, etc.. let it run for a while and test like you are expecting a cycle. once a week or so goes by you will notice if you have any issues. if so, cycle like normal. if not, progress slowly.

This would be assuming the rock was transported quickly, and in water, to avoid any die off. You can have established live rock that has been in a tank for 5 years but if you take it out of that tank and leave it exposed for just 1 day then you will experience some die off and possibly see an ammonia spike. This would then result in the cycle that you are asking about avoiding.
