The Conscientious Marine Aquarist (newest edition) by Robert Fenner
ISBN 978-1-890087-99-9 The Reef Aquarium science, art, and technology by J. Charles Delbeek and Julian Sprung ISBN 1-883693-14-4 Book of Coral Propagation by Anthony Calfo ISBN 978-0-9802305-0-7 i listed them in the order that they should be read by people new to reefing....IMO of course.

I'm a newbie myself and recently bought 5 books.
In addition to the first two that Shane mentioned, I also got: (1) Aquarium Corals by Eric Borneman (I believe Calfo's book focuses more on propagation and may be more suited to those interested in fragging and propagating on a larger scale, though I'm sure it contains quite a lot of the same info. about corals in Borneman's one). (2) The Marine Fish Health & Feeding Handbook by Bob Goemans and Lance Ichinotsubo (A great book that is divided into 3 sections - Buying and acclimating new fish, Feeding, and Recognizing and treating diseases). A great book for both beginners and experts. (3) Reef Invertebrates by Anthony Calfo and Robbert Fenner (Amazing photographs and in-depth information on invert selection, care and compatibility) Hope that helps........... |

I learned a lot from all of these.
The Reef Aquarium vol 3 mentioned above covers the nuts and bolts so well it answered questions I didn't even know I had. |

I actually learned the basics from Saltwater fish for dummys, but I learned the most from Reef Central.
