14k mh vs 10k t5's
I currently have two tanks.
250 RedSea Max 22 gallon Zeroedge aquarium ( 24 by 18 by12). The max is 6 months old and the zero edge is 4 months old. I changed the bulb on the zeroedge to a 14k bulb at startup (more blue light) whereas it came with a 10k bulb ( should I go back to the 10k bulb which is used). What I have noticed is that the corals, a mix of soft and hard, have been growing better in the Red Sea Max which is more that twice as deep as the zero edge and has stronger flow because of the twin pump system. The bulb on the zeroedge is about 10" above the water because of space limitations. I do not have a heat problem. I recently placed what is called a Fuji moon coral in the zeroedge from the max, by the way this coral took 4 months for the polyps to bloom, and now it's not blooming as well . I realize that a change of light intensity may have something to do with it but the corals that I placed in the edge, mostly mushrooms, from the start do not seem to be growing quickly enough. About a month ago I started dosing each tank with PurpleUp at the recommended rate and I noticed better growth in the Red Sea max. Also it is helping with coraline agle growth in both tanks. Your comments will be appreciated; thank you. |
