The Alpha200 is to big for your system. Look at the 170 instead.

I've learned not to go too big. Everyone told me to get the biggest skimmer you can buy...that is not true. thanks I'll look at it. Do you recomend that over the Super Reef Octopus XP 3000 Internal Skimmer?

I have never used the reef octo.
I have a alpha200 on my 155 with a 30gal sump, 20gal fug, and 15gal frag tank, and I wish I had done the 170. The 200 is hard to keep running right. It just needs a lot of protien to work right. Over all its ok, but I think the 170 would have been better. You might try asking jermey in the premium forums what his thoughts are. |

If it was me I would be looking at:
ATB small cone Alpha170 or maybe 200 (I think the 200 would be to big. Just my opinion tho.) Mini Bubble King 200 Super Reef Octopus 3000 Maybe look into the I-tech or SWC line as well. |

SRO 3000 is the perfect fit for our system. Lighter on the pocket book too.

Can't speak about the other skimmer but I just installed a SRO-3000 on my 180 system and it kicks some serious butt. I get the nastiest, smelling Nog you ever seen.

I own a Royal 170, and a XP 2000. Both are great skimmers, but i really like the construction of the Royal. cant go wrong either way.

I have the SRO3000int on my 180 display and sure am happy with it. Not worth the extra benjamins for the others. Just too much money and my sro 3000 is a beast. I have a light to medium bioload and its perfect for my tank. Although if i was to purchase again I would have gotten the external version instead since its a recirculating skimmer probably a little more efficent. Just emptied my cup today and it was nasty stuff well worth the money!

I have the Alpha 200 Cone on my 120g system. Way overkill.
But I purchased it w/ the plan of upgrading, currently adding another 200g of volume in the form of a large sump and frag system. Should be just perfect soon. |

I have a 58 gal and I got the Reef Octopus 4 (100 Gallon) and I love it. It's easy to adjust when you first set it up, and pulls out a good amount of gunk. I never have to screw around with it, it just works. I haven't adjusted it for weeks.

I am looking at the Super Reef Octopus 3000 Internal Protein Skimmer and need to know how tall the collection cup itself is? Can someone that owns one PLEASE measure the collection cup ONLY...I just need to know how many inches it is as I have a very tight space to install it in...and a very large tank!
