sand black areas

I'm going to remove all but 1" of sand out of my fuge and put it into my DT. But the sand has plack areas in it - if I rinse it well in SW, will it be OK?

Then what should I do? Would it be OK to remove the top 1" of the sand and put in the DT as long as I avoid black areas? There are pods, tine shimps, etc in the sand that I'd like to keep if possible.

Why do you want to take the sand out of the fuge and put it in the DT? It's gonna cause more problems up there than in the fuge.

1. I want to increase the depth of the sand in my DT to 5" (currently 2 1/2" to 4 1/2" sloping)
2. I have sugar size sand and want to add a top layer of coarser aragonite b/c I'm getting a diamond watchman and don't want sand storm all the time.
