Tank Plumbing Help

have been searching a lot to try to get this info but I guess I am not good at wording the searches. So here goes

I have a 75g that has a single overflow box in one corner. It is drilled with about a 1.6 inch hole and about a 1.3 which from what I can find fits a 1 inch and a 3/4 inch bulkhead. I am guessing that the 1inch is for the drain and the 3/4 is for return but could be wrong on that.
Questions
1. How do I determine what size pumb I will need.
2. is teh LocLine tubing what I need and if so what size would be best 1/2 or 3/4

If these are not the right questions I am not sure what/how to ask but what i got was a 75g that has the 2 holes and overflow box with no plumbing other than a skimmer with no pump and a sump so I am trying to learn.

Thanks
Cory

I assume you don't know the brand of aquarium? That would be the easiest way to find out the specs of the overflow. However, if you go to the homepage of RC, there is a Drain/Overflow size calculator. It asks for the GPH you're planning to use, but you can also use it in reverse by guesstimating and adjusting (sorry, I forget the formula to determining overflow size).

For example, if you guess that you're overflow can handle 600 GPH, then the results are:

Recommended minimum drain pipe diameter = 1.01 inches
Recommended minimum linear overflow size = 9 inches

You can measure your overflow size (linear) and then adjust accordingly.

If you have a standard size overflow with standard size holes, most (when two different size holes are available) are 1" for the drain, and 3/4" for the return. There's no need to reduce down to 1/2" on the return.
