Help>> help>> fast please

I was taking my hood off and a T5 bulb broke and some went in the aquarium, will this kill any fish or coral. Didn't know if i need to do a rapid water change. 120 oceanic with 60 gal sump. What do i do?

I wouldnt worry too much. The mercury that is in the T5 is very little and rusts basically at the speed of light when in contact with water (ive read). Use a magnet to get the metals out if you can.

Do frequent water changes to get the metal/rust out. And clean as much of the glass out as you can.

ahh thank you, you are a good man. i feel as though i will be able to sleep after just buying an Achilles Tang this weekend and the fear of it dying would be devistating. Thank you for your great advice.

Don't go crazy with water changes. You can get the metals out...the small amount that might be in there, with carbon and or a polly filter. No worries though.

Definitely run fresh carbon and a Poly filter.

I'm not sure that any mercury would rust, from a chemistry point of view, but it's in there so the best is to remove what you can.

Also skim as wet as you can, heavy metals will bind with organics and you may be able to get some export going via your skimmer.

I'm also sure you cleaned up the endcaps of the bulb... copper (if any) wouldn't bother your new Achilles but it won't do your inverts any good.

Carbon and get out any pieces you can im sure youll be fine.
