how deep can I have a sand bed?

I'm adding a ten gallon mantis fuge to my tank filled with around 15 mangrove and wondering how deep I can make a sand bed? Like 6"?

That's like asking how big of a tank you can have...

Make it as deep as you want. Read up on DSB's and you'll find that most people claim the value of a DSB is not truly attained until the depth is at least 6". I've seen posts where people use 33 gallon brute containers FULL of sand as remote DSBs.

you won't have much room in your mantis tank if you add 6" of sand in a 10g.

the higher the sand bad the higher the corals are to the lights

who cares how big your 215 is, he is not using it for corals. It is a mantis tank and fuge. I don't think you will see any benefit from a 10g dsb. A 6" sandbed would only give 6" of water

Yes, the standard 10 gallon is only 12" high. I would not recommend too deep a sand bed in it.

I agree with corbett. Makes no sense to have 6 inch sandbed, 2" is more than enough.

Depends on what type of mantis. Some need deeper sandbeds than others.

Dude: I would recommend 12" of sand which would both make a nice anaerobic DSB and leave the bloody mantis out of the water. I have been unsuccessfully hunting a mantis (after having caught 2) from my reef for over a year: To each their own!

I am curing some sand for my 37 gallon mantis tank right now. Here's a pic for you of what 5 inches of sand looks like in a 10 gallon if that helps.
