Coral help

I purchased this coral a few days ago and when I bought it, it was in really good health. Soon as we put it in the bag and took it home obviously it closed up. By the next day it was looking good everything was normal then the next day it stayed closed all day. Today.. same thing.. so I decide to move it thinking it's in a bad spot and when I get it out there is a damn 3 inch worm hanging from it.

Could this worm have caused it to stay closed up? Is it dead now? I removed the worm from the coral and tank and put the coral back in the same place. I'm not really sure what kind of coral it is, maybe a leather?

Looks like a leather to me. Leathers go through phases of being inflated or deflated. Try not to move it too much and it should come around.

I assume you acclimated it a bit before placing in your tank? Think the worm may have been framed. There area some bad worms but a typical bristle worm shouldn't go after coral unless it's dead or on its way out.

It can take a little while for new corals to become acclimated. Is this your first coral? Out of curiosity, are you experiencing any temperature swings with this summer heat?

Well i keep the house at the same temperature and havnt notice a dff in temps. The coral hasnt had a chance to attach but it did open up the morning after i got it, i just don't know if the worm can cause issues.

If it's a bristle worm it won't cause issues - and would only eat coral tissue if dead. Is the coral just shoved in a hole in the rock? Corals like solid footing, I recommend attaching it somehow (epoxy putty, superglue, etc.).
