300 watt overkill for 40b?
I got my 40b up and running last weekend. I have a 100w visi-therm heater in there right now, but it's about 15 years old and I'm worried about using it. I just wfound a Rena Smartheater 300w on clearence at Petsmart, it was almost too cheap not to buy it. Will it be ok to use it safely win my 40 breeder? I have a 30" eshoppes sump that holds around 20 gallons. I do plan on buying a Reefkeeper Lite in the next month or so.
I know it's better to use 2 smaller heaters, but do you think I have anything to worry about? |

I think My self i would feel better if I had a controler running it but I have operated smaller tanks then what the heater is rated for with no ill effect im sure that you would use a little more hydro

i would suggest using the smaller heater as i just removed a malfunctioning 300 watt heater from a 65 gallon tank that i service . oh did i fail to mention it was at 98.8 degrees and all fish were dead and the snails and crabs all left their shells and died also .
