Stocking Suggestions Please!

Got my 120 Gallon FOWLR set up and am planning ahead. I intend to for a reef 6-12 months from now. What I would like would be suggestions as to a) a clean up crew to be introduced after the tank has cycled and b) fish suggestions that would be compatible with a reef tank when I introduce corals down the road. Thanks!

Welcome to RC! Mine, and most others on here will probably suggest to search around the forums, as there are many great threads on RC covering your exact questions.

My number one suggestion for getting your CUC established would be to purchase some pieces of really nice quality live rock. It is one way to establish a wide range of diversity in your tank to begin with.

I would suggest avoiding turbo snails, because they are like bulldozers and will knock over all kids of stuff in your tank. Also, I would avoid hermit crabs, at least to start. They will hunt down the snails, and other little critters in your tank. Kinda defeats the whole point.

Good luck, and keep reading!

Welcome to RC.

Mountain Medic did a good job answer part "a" of you question, so i will give my response to part "b".

One of the great things about saltwater reef fish is the diversity that they have. there are endless ways to stock any tank, and with 120 gallons you have a lot of choices. My feeling is that if you just stock what other people tell you to put in, then the tank might not really feel like your tank and reflect your personality. Take a look at a site like liveaquaria . com and take a look at the fish they offer for sale. Pay attention the the species information that they have (shows up on the right hand side when looking at a fish) and pick some fish that you like. After you pick some, come back here and show us your list, the experts on here can tell you if they will work out in your tank or not.

good luck, and have fun.
