Zeroedge style tank
I was considering building a tank of this style but instead of acrylic I want to use starphire glass. The edges of the acrylic cause a distortion that I don't personally care for. I would have the edges beveled and polished. I would use clear silicone for the edges to complete the seamless look. I was just wondering if any of you guys had any advise that I may consider before I begin this build.

I'd stay away from zero edge style tanks and build yourself a regular tank. It may seem pretty but plumbing will be a nightmare and high flow may be a problem

Zero edges have a lot of problems. Evaporation and plumbing issues. I agree with those up above.

yea, if you have a lot of flow in those tanks, the water overflows unevenly and that causes both aesthetic and other issues. I saw a gorgeous one at Pacific East, but it was all softies and gorgonians, really cool, but if you want sps at all, i'd go rimless rather than zeroedge. I think the clear silicone will cause far more distortion than the acrylic corners. If done carefully, the acrylic could be nearly perfect I think.

Just out of curiosity, why do these tanks suffer from plumbing and flow issues?

Water from the sump will return through he bottom of the tank, in case of a power outrage or pump failure the whole tank will drain into the sump. This can be prevented with well planned plumbing but if you don't know what you're doing be prepared for water on your floor. Flow wise, all the flow will be provided by one pump (you could add powerheads, but that takes away from the look) high flow will properly cause salt spray and distortion of view. |

our LFS has a gigantic one. they are next to impossible to get good and level. if you are even the slightest bit off, or have too much current to one area, they are hard to look thru.
