fungus on new yellow tang???
Hi everyone,
I've had my tank up and running now for about 5 months and have found so much helpful information in the archives of this site! Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find an answer for my current conundrum on these threads so here I am making my first post! I purchased a yellow tang one week ago and she appeared to be in perfect health, truly a beautiful fish. I put her in my 10 gallon quarantine tank, and two days later she started developing a white fluffy spot on her right pectoral fin. I've been watching it closely and it appears to have grown although it is still the only visible spot on her body. I'v researched ich and other marine diseases and my best guess is that its a fungus, but i want to be sure before I treat her. She does not seemed bothered by it yet, is still eating as is not flashing, but she does seem REALLY stressed and swims real fast and hides as soon as I approach the tank (which is why it was so hard to get a picture, sorry they are so blurry) My quarantine tank's parameter's are as follows: NH3 = 0 NO2 = 0 NO3 = 10 ppm temp = 79 +/- 1 degree SG = 1.022 (i realize this is a little low, but I heard that keeping the salinity low can help keep pests at bay). pH = 7.9 (also a little low, but I think its because of the low salinity in such a small tank) Anyway, I'm checking these parameters daily and trying to keep things consistent and the nitrates low with partial water changes every 2-3 days. Any advice on a diagnosis and what to do for this would be MUCH APPRECIATED!!! Thanks for reading! |

Ich is not fluffy - fluffy is fungus. Brook? Marine Velvet? Sorry just throwing out items that popped up on google.
