Question Bioballs vs Live Rock Rubble in Sump

I'll be setting up my new 50 gallon cube reef aquarium very soon, and a question came to mind: why use bioballs over live rock rubble in my sump?

I'll likely have over 50 lbs. of LR in the display tank, but still have the option of bioballs or LR in an assigned compartment of my sump.

Won't most LR be more porous and support more healthy bacteria (as well as pods) than bioballs?

I'm not sure who told you to use bio-balls, but in my experience they turn into nitrate factories after a while. If you're going to have 50 lbs in the tank, I doubt you'll need any rubble in the sump, unless you need it for 'pods, etc.

I would skip the bioballs and use the live rock ruble, its a great place for copepods to multiply too.

IMO there is no difference. Both will trap gunk in a sump and create nitrates

I would refrain from using either in your sump...you have enough live rock for biological filtration. If your sump has a compartment for growing chaeto, I would recommend that instead.
