DIY Venturi Skimmers - Saturation Chamber

I've been researching venturi style skimmers and have noticed that some have a "saturation chamber" and some do not. Is there any real advantage to having a seperate saturation chamber inside the main reaction chamber?

Does a skimmer perform better (less turbulent, more contact time) if the flow is directed through a bubble plate or if it is allowed to freely swirl up through the reaction chamber? or another method?

Thanks!

This would be better answered in the DIY forum, there are several experienced reefers over there who have built multiple skimmers.
