first saltwater tank

hey guys so like the title says i have just purchased my first saltwater tank. its 70 gallon with 3 live rock and 3 damsels. im currently using a canister filter and it seems to be doing fine but i plan on making a sump. i bought a complete setup from a guy on craigslist paid $275 for everything, the filter, tank, stand, heater, lighting, and 3 live rock.. the tank has only been setup for a few days but seems to be doing ok so far.
i am very new to this and would take any advice please feel free to post.

also i owe khusson1 big time he has helped me out so much!!!

well it's a start but I would deff. add more LR. what are the plans for this tank? fish only, reef?

yea i def. want to add more rock and i plan on doing fish and coral. any suggestion on some good starter fish and coral?

clowns, chromis, gobies are a few good starter fish. softies, shrooms, zoas and some LPS are a good starter coral.

Also how long should i let my tank cycle befor adding coral and other fish

usually when your tests read 0 on ammonia and nitrite and your nitrate's are low do a 20% water change and then wait another 1-2 weeks and test again. if everything looks good you can add 1 fish and another fish 2 weeks after that and so on. as long as your tests are good.

for coral I would wait till after your 1st fish and your tests are stable then you should be fine with softies and such

i did tests today and everything except alkalinity was perfect the alkalinity test came back high

if I were you I would purchase more live rock or base rock before fish or corals. get the foudation of the reef finished 1st.

a good place for base rock would be bulk reef supply
