Perc Clowns Hosting??

I added 2 Percula Clowns to my tank this past weekend and they have been hanging out on the bottom corner of the tank. I added a Purple Tip Sebae Anemone to the tank today. Generally how long does it take for clowns to start hosting in a new anemone?

Minor thing, but the anemone does the hosting, not the clowns.

What color is your "sebae" (( assuming an H. Crispa ))?

An H. Crispa isn't a natural host for Percs, but that shouldn't stop them. But, it could take, seconds, minutes, hours, etc. Personally I have seen a couple of seconds all the way to a couple of months (( numerous clowns/anemone combos )).

Likely an H. Crispa. However, that anemone does appear to be bleached, which is sadly very common with that species.

Does the anemone eat when offered meaty food? If so, there may be hope yet.

To my knowlege the purple tip seabae is always this color when healthy, the regular seabae is a more brown, tan color. These are offered for sale all over the web and are this color.

As seen here
http://www.aquacon.com/anemone.html
http://reefsources.itgo.com/features...esc/sebae.html
http://www.freshmarine.com/sebae-anemone.html
http://digiphotodotcom.blogspot.com/...nano-reef.html

Here are some variations in color listed here
http://www.3reef.com/forums/inverts/...9-a-58612.html

To my research I think people simply confuse the white color on this variety as bleached. I could be wrong however but as far as my research leads it seems to be a misconception. I have watched this one at my local LFS for roughly a month, it eats very well and has grown quite a bit since I started watching it. If I am wrong I would definitly take it back to the LFS if needed and swap it for a different one.

Looking at the picture again, you do have a light-brown coloration going on (not stark white), which is good!

As for hosting, it takes some time. You might wake up some morning and have the fish happily hosted.

Note that this anemone does wander - be careful.

I had that same anemone. He was that white when I bought him.. and about 3 months later his tentacles had darkened alot. For some horrid reason.. they love to bleach these anemones on us, I guess to make them look prettier? Its stupid. Anyways.. my sabae only lasted about 6mos Keep an eye on it.. from what I gathered during my caretaking.. they are on the more difficult side!
Congrats and good luck

Ugh,

Well after even more research I am starting to doubt my purchase I might just swap her out in the morning for one that is a bit more on the easy side.

There is zero doubt in my mind that it is a bleached H. Crispa, and any vendor that offers a white one for sale should be avoided -- they should know better. That aquaCON site is especially bad, they even are offering a yellow one -- which I am 99.99% certain is dyed.

If you actually saw a healthy one, you would be shocked at the difference. "Davocean" has a large healthy one -- nice tan color, with long tentacles.

The yellow coloration is a dyed specimen for sure. Especially telltale is if the foot is dyed (it should be white IIRC).

The color you're shooting for with this anemone when fully happy is a tan color. If you have some light-tan going on, its stressed but not hopeless.

I watched this darn little bugger for over a month at the LFS, it was hosting a clown there and ate well. I guess reseach is not the greatest when it doesnt contain first hand experience.

Early on in my reefing years, I had an H. Crispa, and had my false percs hosted to it. It lasted about 6 months, and started very similar to yours in coloration. It also ate well. This was a 55g lighted by slight underpowered power compacts.

This is a tough specimen, but can be successful. If its been in your retailer's tank for that long, it has a good chance of survival.
