octopus xtreme 200 skimmer noise

Will this skimmer quite down some? Right now it's pretty loud. Been running for 2 days.

It's not the quietest skimmer in the world. Even though mine does a great job, I have considered looking at something else for this very reason. Mine has been running for 6 months.

Dang.

What have you done/considered to quite it down? I wish I could put it on a timer and have it run at night. Is this a bad idea?

I have the MSX 200 which I think is pretty much the same as yours and it is loud also. It was VERY loud the first 2-4 weeks I had it and then it quieted down some, but it's still fairly loud. I can hear its hum from the first floor when I'm on the second floor. You can probably replace the Sicce with a quieter pump...

That's what I was going to try first as well. My stock pump has the same problem as others where it's hard to startup after I shut it off from time to time.

I hear upgrading the pump is a win/win

Mine isn't too annoying as all my equipment is in the coat closet near the tank.

i have the xtreme200 and its super quiet. i've had it for about a year now and it took some adjustments to make sure the skimmer wasn't touching my sump walls or anything. But as of now i wouldn't call it loud by all means. Its only been two days, let the pump break in for a bit.

it will get significantly quieter over the next week or two. with that said, mine has been running for about a year, and it's certainly not silent.

Interesting, I've been out of the loop for awhile and was unaware of this version. Where are you getting it from?

I'm also using this skimmer and am loving it. It does quite down quite a bit once it breaks in and has been running for a while. Mine started off being pretty loud but has been running for just about 4 months now and did quite down, but not silent.

I did install the red pin wheel in it. I'm inpatient with the noise, hopefully it'll quiet down.

I have the MSX 200 and it runs quiet for me. It took about two weeks but now all I can hear now is the trickle of the water. Just give it some time.

We run an octopus lx 2000s and it was extremely loud when we first got it, but seemed to work well. I was going to put up with it but my husband got a new filter, very quiet ever since
