I've never heard of shrimps being algae eaters. What you need is a nice group of snails.

If you have everything secured in the tank urchins do a pretty good job too.

IMO a coral banded shrimp will become a problem they r very territorial and will kill other shrimp and fish in a small tank so go with snails but don't get to many just a few will work

I say snails to. Be careful with peppermint shrimp as they have a tendency to eat LPS corals. I got 2 and they demolished my very expensive acans. And yes people they were 100% peppermint shrimp and not camel shrimp. I think its hit or miss with these things and i would rather be safe than sorry

Peps will eat LPS and sometimes softies if not trained before adding.
We catch peps off the jetties here Texas. When we bring them home we always put them in the sump for about 5 days to get them trained on eating pellet food. Then once they are eating pellets we add them to the DT. For some reason this makes them less likely to chow down on coral. I have about 5 in my 90 gallon and they have never touched a coral. They love my aptasia though. HOWEVER, in my case they do not kill the aptasia. they simply eat the heads off and make them hide in the rock for about a week to heal. Then they pop right back out. Smaller... but still there.

I think everything in this hobby is pretty much hit or miss with a few exceptions.

These guys will hog down aiptasia but won't touch algae.
They are a blast and very nice to all coral. I've trained mine to climb up my finger and bring him to the surface. They will hide 98% of the time. I didn't see mine for over 4 months and all of the sudden there he was! They will eat mysis shrimp (funny and sick I know). Don't worry about getting food to them. They will find it. When the lights are off you will see him running all over the place. |

I've got a few emerald crabs in my tank to help clean up some of the algea as well as astrea snails. Turbos are always a problem knocking frags over.
