New sump. To use or not to use bio balls
Just got a new sump with overflow but am puzzled on using the bioballs

I think the consensus is not to use bio balls on reef tanks, but if it is fowlr then it is probably fine.

Ya you dont want the bioballs it just gives detrius a place to build up and build nitrates.

Some people replace the bioball area with live rock, or make it a refugium

I advise against bio balls, but if you know the pros and cons, you can overcome the nitrate issues.
