Heater suggestions

I have a 37 gallon and just purchased a Marineland Stealth Pro at the suggestion of Petsmart. Got home and saw the bad reviews about it exploding in the tank. What heater do you recommend? My freshwater tank was cooked by a heater years ago, so I am very worried about selecting the best heater I can get - or at least a very good one that doesn't typically malfunction. Thanks for your feedback.

Or buy a separate controller/temp probe + a titanium heater.

The stealth Pro heater is a good heater. I have two of them... on in my RES turtle tank, and one in my QT tank. Eheim Jager also makes a very good heater.

I'd return the stealth, or use it for water changes. And never expose it to air. It will quickly cook itself and split open.

About how much are they? I'm pretty sure Petsmart has nothing like this. I'll check with my expensive but knowledgeable LFS.

The Stealth Pro heaters that were having issues were just a bad batch that happened about a year ago. The newer ones haven't had any issues reported with them. If you do enough looking you'll find which batch number it was (I forget off hand).

Jager is a good heater like TripleT suggested.

Edit: Here is the info I saw just the other day....

I haven't seen any recent posts documenting this happening. From what i understand, it was a bad batch released last winter/spring. The bad batch # is 01431. If your Stealth is of this batch, Marineland will exchange it for a new one. Just what I've read on other sites.
