need help picking a filter

I have a 30 gallon salt water reef tank and for right now i have a HOB marienland filter pushing 350 gph but it keeps sucking up sand and making alot of noise can anyone suggest a good hob filter?

can you cut the intake alittle to bring it higher up? I use a HOB aquaclear 110 converted into a fuge and works well.

ya i already cut the intake and i am still having the same issues. Also what do you mean by converted into fuge( do you have a pic.)

Forget the filter, get a great skimmer.

ill post a pic in the morning and explain further for you. I say get a HOB skimmer and DO the fuge conversion and run both if you have no sump. Ill reply back in the morning more detailed.

I would get rid of the hob filter and get a hob protein skimmer. If you have enough lr that should be all the filtration you need. This is called the Berlin Method and I am going to be using it on my new 55 gallon.

I use the AquaC Remora HOB skimmer, and love it.

If you are set on a HOB filter, my preference would be an Aquaclear 70 or 110. Solid filter that is very quiet and they sell a surface skimmer attachment if you need it. I would recommend a skimmer over the filter though unless you just want something to put media in.
