Avoiding pump burnout

I have been running a new Eshopps RS-300 sump for about 4 weeks now. I have been having to top off more frequently than I did with my old sump due to the increased surface area. It has has also been not very humid so that does not help.

This is the first time I have had a pump with baffles. I am worried that if I don't top off in time, and the water goes below the baffle the pump will quickly suck all of the water out of the last chamber and burn out the pump.

Any advice on how to prevent this from happening?

Do a search and you will find a lot of similar q's . . . you can add an auto-fill system and never have to worry about it, as long as the system works right!

Although I now use an level sensing top off system, I originally used a rainbird timer and an electric solenoid to turn my r/o system on for set times throughout the day. Knowing how much you evaporate in a day, you can figure out how long to run the top off. The time varies with the season, so you have to check it ... look when you feed.

you can pick up a ATO fairly cheap, or DIY one even cheaper. There is about a bazillion threads on the DIY ATO. I absolutely would not run my ro/di directly to the tank. It will eventually stick open and your salinity will drop like a rock. And don't forget the flood.......
