So when I first put the clownfish in (about a week ago) the damsel did bully a little for a day or two but since then no bullying. The cloenfish is very lathargic swimming at the surface and has a whitish film on his body very faint. I now have him in a QT tank.

I think you can do a freshwater dip as long as you match the ph to your tank. or you can use medications such as copper or malachite green. that is of course if it is brooklynella.

Copper doesn't kill brooklynella. You need formalin instead.

Formalin is the ONLY thing that will cure brooklynella. You MUST follow the directions on the package exactly or your fish will die. This disease is not like ich. Brooklynella is a definite killer. Ich is not.
Good luck.

As mentioned before, formalin is what is necessary to treat the fish, and it needs be done in a QT. After that, the tank should stay fishless (fallow) for a couple of weeks to allow the parasite to cycle out so you don't have to deal with that nasty stuff again. |

Sounds like Brook and as stated before formalin is the only treatment that's been known to cure it. Do a search under the disease forum for it or for my name and you'll find all the info I could dig up when I was going thru it. This can't be stated enough: It acts fast! If you want to save your fish you have to attack it head on quickly.

Brooklynella, is fast. I had a problem with it a year or so ago. As others have stated I used formalin, but most of the fish didn't make it. I'm sure there are other diseases that are as bad, but brooklynella is rough. Goodluck.

Well, I acted but apparently not fast enough my clown died last night. So obviously I need to take the damsel out and treat even if he shows no signs? And also to let the parasite die off in my DT?

This is where it got confusing for me. When it hit my tank I had one false perc, a royal granma, a tail-spot blenny, and a flasher wrasse. I introduced a blk & white clown that I didn't QT that had it. The blk & white died within 24 hrs, my false perc 24 hrs after that, my royal granma went a day after that. The blenny and wrasse NEVER showed any signs of sickness. I introduced 2 new clowns some months later, of course these guys went into QT for 2 months. Till this day no signs whatsoever and this was back in '08. I'm still not sure if the blenny & wrasse were carriers that never showed symptoms or if they were unaffected.

Sorry to hear that, Dbroncos. I would QT the rest of your fish from the display tank just in case.

Dbroncos, hated to see the post on the clown. It was the same for me. By the time I figured out I had Brooklynella it was to late.

I had a scare a few months ago. Now I keep the formalin and QT tank ready to go just in case.
