new 29 gal tank

hey everyone!

So i started a 29 gallon last weekend and as of now i have a protein skimmer running along with a heater. I do not have powerheads yet, but the skimmer is doing a good job so far, lots of micro bubbles though! I also put a piece of shrimp in to start the cycle off.

anyways ive been adding live rock slowly bc its expensive and today my tests read
ammonia - 1.0
nitrate - 1
nitrite - .1

am i doing anything wrong?

sounds right. Yes you can add a cuc once your cycle is done. That is when Ammonia and Nitrites read 0.

also i know that aiptasia isnt something that i really want in my tank, but it has recently shrunk up and the tentacle looking things are shrivled

is this a sign that my water quality is bad?

i found a tiny brittle star in my tank today! i also found a pink work with spikes on it crawling around on a piece of rock it has since gone into hiding though... any idea on what it could be?

also i am still wondering if i need to do anything about the shriveling aiptasia... does that mean something is wrong?

In my experience you can't get your water bad enough to Kill aiptasia without killing everything else first! Sounds like you have a bristle worm, watch your fingers around it!

Cant really tell you what kind of star fish it is with no info or anything LOL
best thing too do is get a pic and post it in the invert section. As for the worm, are the spikes or do they look like the legs on a Centipede ?
I dont know about the apt shriveling up are you positive ? They can retract when they feel threatened . Are you testing your water ?

its definitely a bristleworm, and there are 2 brittle starfish, and i have been taking water tests and as of 2 pm i had

ammonia= 2ish
nitrite = <.1
nitrate = 1

still pretty early in my cycle, i did something stupid and tried to just add instant ocean salt to my dt instead of premixing it which more than likely killed alot of stuff in my tank including the aiptasia. (newb mistake) At least i don't have any livestock in my tank haha

thanks for the support guys, and i appreciate the replies!
