Quiteing a eshopps overflow

I recently started up my eshopps overflow on my 55 again. Thing gurgles like crazy. Any ideas as to how I can stop it? I have a airline running out to allow it to suck in air and it helps a little. I've tried building the hofner gurgle buster, but it didn't seem to fit right or work very well. Any other ideas out there?

There are a number of different ways to do it, but first make sure that the pump isn't pushing too much water for the drain to accommodate. That'll make a flushing sound. If that's not the problem, try adding a riser to the drain tube so the water doesn't "fall" quite so far from the chamber where the water enters to the drain chamber. Once you do that, all it usually takes is setting the cap of the gurgle buster on top of the drain pipe.

I cut a piece of sponge filter and stuck it in the hole on the standpipe that my prefilter goes over. This helped a whole lot, its not fixing the problem only a band-aid, but its a pretty good band-aid. The only problem you'll find is that if you don't rinse out the sponge every 3-4 days you won't get the full amount of flow that you would be getting which could cause your pump to run dry if you don't pay attention to your water level in the sump or don't have an ATO. Even if you had an ATO it could and would cause a flucuation in salinity. All these are problems that I'd look into getting fixed if at all possible.
