watts per gallon??

Hey everyone just a quick question how many watts of light do i need for my 60 gallon tank it measures 13" wide 48"long and is 17" deep.. how much lighting would i need for a good reef to survive?

It all depends on what you are planning to keep. i have a 50 gallon 48x13x19(the diminsions you gave are for a 45 Gallon) i have 440 watts of VHO Lights.

whats per gallon isn't really a valid measument of light.

Why just survive, you should want your animals to THRIVE not just surviving.

depending on what you want to keep 4-8X 54w t5's or you might want to consider going led, maybe somthing like 2 of the ecoxotics panarama fisxture 72 or 76 watts each I believe.

^yep all depend on what you want to keep. 2 250 watt halides will be great of SPS mixed reef. I have 1 over a 36" tank and get great spread. If you just want to keep LPS a softies then 2 150 watt halides or 4 48" T5s will be great. You could even keep SPS up high.

I have 2 175W MH's and 2 54W t5's over my 90 and it works fine.
