QT and acclimation
Just wondering how long everyone QT's a healthy new fish purchase.... I have a yellow tang in QT right now and I would like to put him in the DT tank on Saturday... He will have been there with no signs of problems or ich and eating well everyday for 10 days on Saturday... is this long enough?
Also should I drip acclimate him the same as when I got him? Salinity will be exactly the same as the DT tank and temp will be as close as possible.... Thanks!!!!!

I would give most tangs at least 4 weeks. Yellows can tend to be ick magnets.

the ick cycle is generally 14 days but can be longer, 4 weeks to be sure.
better safe than sorry. |

i would also wait 4 weeks. one way to make sure ALL of your water parameters are the same is to use the"waste"water from your waterchanges in your DT to fill your QT during your changes in it. that way it's almost exactly the same = no extra acclimation stress.
besides it saves a little $$$$$.

4 weeks, ichs life cycle outside of the fish is 31 days max, 1 day from the time the cycst drops out of the fish to the time it finds a place it likes and encrusts, 28 days (Max) in the encrusted form and another day of free swimming ich.
Pay very close attention to the gill areas. |
