Algaefix and GFO or RowaPhos
I used Algaefix to get rid of a bad outbreak of green hair algae. I took my GFO offline during the 2 weeks I dosed the Algaefix.
I want to follow the directions and give a weekly dose for several months. Will having GFO or RowaPhos running "pull" the Algaefix out of the water? Or, will the Algaefix deplete GFO or RowaPhos faster than normal? Note: My source of nutrients is leech from live rock that I stored in saltwater for a year. |

Hi there,
Has Algaefix worked? Does it work for Dinoflagellates? |

First off, GFO does not need to be removed while running Algaefix. In fact, it should be run while dosing as it will absorb all the phosphates being released by the dying algae.
GFO spefically binds phosphates, and Algefix is an algaecide and not an organophosphate so it has no effect on Algaefix concentration in the water column. Algaefix works great against standard hair algae, however it had no effect on my Dino issue. It also won't work against Bryopsis |
