Leaky Reef Octopus DNW 200 Recirculating Protein Skimmer

It's leaking from the bottom where the skimmer body attaches top the base.
If I took it off line and bought some aquarium sealant to seal the base.

You think that will solve the problem?

I also see that these skimmers are internal as well, meaning I could sit the whole thing my my 55g sump??

Thanks for the help.

I would use weldon to repair it. The aquarium sealant doesn't stick to acrylic well and will most likely just peal of over time.

Yes, if internal, it can go in the sump. You still want to fix the leak though.

Aquarium sealant ( silicon ) doesn't adhere well to acrylic, and sealing from the outside (against the water pressure ) isn't likely to be effective long term even with proper adhesive. If you can get to the inside of the tube, I would use weld-on #16 on the entire seam. if not you could try to get #4 to wick into the leak from the outside. The unit must be completely dry, especially in the leaking seam for any hope of success here.
Placing the unit in the sump is a safer option.... not much downside to bigger leak.
