In sump skimmer for 50 gallon display

I'm still in the planning stages of a 50 breeder build and need recommendations on a skimmer. I'm either going to use a 30 gallon, or 20 long aga for the sump. The tanks going to be right beside the couch in my lving room so I'm looking for something that'll be pretty quiet. I don't plan on super havily stocking the tank, but I like to be able to feed as much as I see fit and not have to worry about the skimmer keeping up. Budget is around $200. If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it as I've never used a skimmer before so it's all kind of over my head. Thanks.

I have the same size tank and have asked the same question in the Skimmer Q&A thread, some of the skimmers that Mojo~ recommended to me where...

BM nac7 or nac6 - cant remember which size he said.
SWC bmk150
Octopus SRO1000

I am pretty sure all of these will run in the $200-$300 range but you'll have to double check on that.

Note i do not have any experience with any of these skimmer's, just some of the ones that others have recommended to me since i have the same tank size.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies and the suggestions. I'll look at the ones you guys recommended. I was also checking out marine depot and came across the reef octopus 6 and was wondering if anyones had any experience with it. Its rated at 150 gallons and is right at my 200 dollar budget. Its gotten pretty good reviews over there so I just thought I'd see of anyones here has used one.

For $200 the Bubble Magus NAC6, SWC bmk150 and Vertex IN 100 are pretty much your elite $200 choices. They are all 6" diameter skimmers with minor performance differences. choose one.

ATB 840 v2. I had a 45G w/ 30g sump and had an ATB small with mini airstar. Did great. When I took it off line and put on a Euroreef RS100, algae started growing everywhere. I'm using that ATB on a 150G w/ 40G sump (lightly stocked) and it's holding up pretty well.

I use the vertex, and I made a silencer for it, and the fans on my light are louder than it.

Thanks again for the replies guys. I stumbled on a group buy for the swc bmk150 over at clay-boa for 180 shipped so I'm trying to go that route. I figure that since this will be my first skimmer and the price seems pretty good I might as well give it a shot.

I too have been contemplating a skimmer decision lately for a 60G display w/ 20G sump. Narrowed it down to these three choices, in no particular order:

Reef Octopus Extreme 160
Reef Octopus Extreme XS 160
EWC Xtreme 160
Reef Octopus SRO1000

Which of these skimmers would you go with or for that matter not go with ? Any other info as to why you chose how you did would also be greatly appreciated.
