cloudy eye is usually due to water quality.

I noticed your tank runs on the low side, I would bring that up to 78-80 and check the rest of your parameters

what do you mean, other parameters, and the tank is about 2mo for me, unfortunately when she set it up at my house she used like 95% of her water so not sure if there was something in it

yeah if you have ammonia that is prob. the cause. when you get your tank to show 0 ammonia 0 nitrites and low nitrates and keep it that way that will cure your fish.

the prob. I see is that you have ammonia in the tank with fish. did you cycle the tank?

how long has the tank been set up?
tell us a what type of filtration you have? (how much LR, flow, ect.)

sorry just noticed you only have a MJ 600 in the tank, that is not alot of flow. how well is the surface of the water moving? I would deff. add a few more powerheads like korilia's or such for better gas exchange.

Give the crew some more history here. From the sounds of it, you are new to salt. When posting - more information is better!

You said your tests had high nitrate and ammonia. This gives us clues - but not a lot.

What test kits did you use? did you perform any other tests? What is the salinity?

When was the last time you tested - and what were the levels then?

How much water did you change - and did you test again later?

What salt are you using, how are you testing for salinity? What is the water source?

She "used 95% of her water" - who is "she"? is she a professional tank caretaker, fish store employee, friend giving you a used tank???

These along with shifty's questions (tank equipment list, filtration) will provide a lot more insight to your current problem -and how the RC crew can help you long term as well.

Thumbs down

unfortunately these are the only filters i have for now, so with what i do have what should i do to maintain low ammonia and nitrates since their the only ones that have went up on me

Read posts 8 and 9. We need to know that kind of stuff before we can really make any sort of in-depth recommendations.

the tank did cycle and it has been up fr about 2 months now, my filtration is listed below.top of the water is moving well enough to carry my pellets of food across the front and on around to the mid back of the tank. the guy at the pet store done a all in one test he said and the only things up were the nitrates and ammonia so at that time i done a 50% change and my salinity is .019, if i missed something let me know

and before i get all the posts about needing different filtration i am working on getting something better this is what came with the tank

you will wany to raise you salinity to at least 1.023 for fish only and with corals and inverts I suggest raising it to 1.025-1.026 using a refractometer.

I would remove both of those filters and add in 1-2lbs per gal. of LR instead. make sure to cycle the new rock before adding to the tank.

you can keep one of the filetrs just to run carbon ut I would remove the bio wheels as they become nitrate factories.

add a few more powerheads like the ones I suggested before.

a skimmer would also be a good choice.

and water changes using rodi water or even ro water would help. you can get that at walmart. they have a machine that you can fill water jugs if you don't wanna purchace a rodi filter right now.

those things should help alot on your filtration.

what does the LR do, and i've always been told the bio-wheels are good cause they contain bacteria that the tank needs

LR or live rock will basically be all the filtration you need, bacteria stays deep within the rock to convert ammonia to nitrite and nitrite to nitrate along with removing nitrate.

bio wheels do a good job at converting everything to nitrate but does noting to remove nitrate.

IMO LR is a much better choice than canister or hang on the back filters in a SW tank.

As for your original question, that fish has a bacterial infection easily cured with antibiotics. You can use something like "Melafix" but most aquarium antibiotics will work on that. It is very common especially in a new tank such as yours.
I just cured a case with the above medication. There are many antibiotics on the market and I would rather use something stronger but you need a prescription for most of them. Melafix will work in a couple of days if treated early enough.

Antibiotics would work better as the formulin does not stay on the fish long and it is fairly toxic.
That would be better for paracites.
