macro going in the sump--live rock also?
I was told to put some live rock in the sump with the macro. This is for the pods I imagine. What is the consensus on this. I'm just going for everything and anything this time around so that my tank does not crash. I have a protein skimmer so I didn't think I needed the macro but after researching I don't think it will hurt and can only help. Thanks gang

I have both macro and rock rubble in the fuge part of my sump. The LR isn't so much for pods as for additional filtration. The LR in your sump is in a good spot because ALL of the water in the aquarium will eventually pass through it and give the bacteria on the rocks a crack at it.

I keep live rock in the refugium. Extra filtration, plus the growth on/in it doesn't get attacked by the display tank inhabitants. It probably helps with pods, but anything separated from the display will grow pods.

Sure. Plus any spare rock you don't have room for in your design can be held there. And if any overturn accident should befall your upstairs sandbed, the fuge sandbed will go on working and possibly save you; and vice versa. It functions as an RSB (remote sandbed) which some bare-bottom tanks use to give them all the bennies of a sandbed while having a bare bottom in the display.

Whatever you decide on, just make sure to keep it clean. You don't want your sump to become a refuge for detritus. Do whatever you need to do to get it out of there. Sooner than later if you know what I mean.

I keep some rubble in my sump I think it also helps with micro bubbles getting back into my display tank.
