Help with skimmer for 90g

I'm looking for skimmer for my 90g. My requirements are I want a fairly quiet running skimmer, not too expensive, and fairly small footprint since I have a submersible pump and don't have a ton of room for the skimmer.

SWC Cone 160 is a good one & I just ordered mine. I saw your thread earlier and have almost identical system but kept quiet cause last time I made the same skimmer recommendation I got poo-pooed by mr. overskimmer.

SRO XP-2000SSS & the SWC 160 Cone are both great skimmers for the price. I've seen them both and they both will work great. Would a nice BubbleKing work better? Yeah, a little, but is it worth more than double the price? That's up to you. If you have the money, then you can't go wrong with a BK, but if you're on a budget, which you say you are, then both the SRO and the SWC are 2 of the skimmers you should definitely look into.

Agreed. BTW, I was speaking to the OP above; looks like we were both typing at the same time.

So this is my first in sump skimmer. I assume on the SWC the pump just sits in the sump? Nothing else attached plumbing wise does it? I've read about people's skimmer's overflowing. Are they just talking about the collection cup?

I also meant i've got a chemical reactor(i think that's what it's called) that does carbon and phosguard sitting in the chamber with the return pump and also where the skimmer would go. Does this matter? Will the skimmer just take the carbon and phosguard and it won't get to my dt?

The pump just sits under the skimmer, no other plumbing needed. At some point you might want to add an elbow/tee on the output stop the waterfall/splashing but not necessary.

There should be no corralation/interaction or connection between the reactor and skimmer. It's a stand alone unit.

Someone who actually knows can correct me, but I've read a lot of posts saying that the SWC 160 is silent while the BB pumps in the Octopus SRO/XP skimmers make a small amount of noise.

Edit: Check out this Youtube video at around the 6:25 min mark to hear the SWC 160. It seems almost silent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLAgZ...1&feature=fvwp
