Dead or Alive?
Last week on Friday I ordered some corals (ricordea and elegance) to be delivered on Saturday! FedEx screwed up and didn't deliver and it looks like I will get it on Monday......what are the chances it's still alive? The vendor is going to make it good, but I'm still upset. It was some WYSIWYG pieces and they don't have anymore.
Any suggestions on what I should look for, or anything I can do to save it if they are on their last leg?

Depends on how well it was packed. You still need to float the bags when you get them. Have some tank water in a bucket to swish the coral around to remove any dead tissue. Place it in your tank and look for major sliming off or tssue falling out.
The ric is probably a gonner but again it depends on how much water it was placed in and how well it was packaged. If its just a goopy blog that almost melts when you grab it I would hesitstae putting it in my tank. Either way I would open up a claim with FedEx for damaged goods. If you cant do this have the seller do this. You can easily get your shipping and amount you paid in full. If the corals were a WYSIWYG and FedEx caused them DOA or damage they will fix it I hope all is well |

DON't open the bags when you first get them. Float the bags. Prepare your dip. Just proceed to dip as normally. When corals are cold-stressed, if stonies, they've retreated within what is now cold skeleton, which takes time to re-warm, so they would wake slowly; softies warm more quickly. I would suggest preparing a qt for them at the same salinity the dealer ships them in, with a temperature a little cooler than your tank, and having that dip a little cooler than normal, too. Put them straight over into that qt after dipping, and bring its temperature up to match your tank temperature over the next 6 hours, and use that time to make sure they're ok. I'd tend to leave them there for a few days so you can track how they're doing and spot any hitchhikers that may have hibernated through the dip. Corals generally come through cold pretty well.

I'd say you have a chance if the temperatures are right. Based on your location it'd be best than it is here as my FedEx trailer would be 20-30 F.
I'd say of the two the rics will stand up to more than the elegance. GL

Wow that's pretty intense, who would have know they would take such a punishment and endure a questionable voyage, to make it safe and sound!

it was pretty amazing......when the wife saw the elegance opened up in its full glory she was amazed that it was even the same coral she was looking at when it came out of the bag!

I think the weather had a lot do do with it surviving. If that would have been here it was close to zero this morning and your little coral bags would have been frozen blocks

I had the same experience and just took my time dripping and everything except a plate coral survived.
