disturb diatom bloom

when your tank is cycling should you clean the top of the sand bed where it is brown covered

you can stir the surface of the sand to help it get some of it sucked out by the skimmer but it'll probably come back until the silicate levels drop.

If it's really bothering you, a media reactor with GFO (granular ferric oxide) will suck out the silicates. Once the diatoms are gone you can use it to control phosphate, which is enemy #1 when it comes to hair algae.

will it do it even if this is still cycling i will go get one if it does otherwise i was going to wait and see if it is something i will need later
