Talking Kims BUILD''nano lagoon''10gal tank from youtube.

Hi there. Im kimberly i just started getting into saltwater here the past year or 2.There is a channel on youtube about making a ''nano lagoon'' mostly using cheaper walmart products. they convert a hood in a 10gal kit into more like a metal halid type top i believe?! if you havent checked it out go ahead.

http://www.youtube.com/user/ipsfdotcom#p/u

Lets get started. . heres my setup. . .

10 gal, LR and LS but is dead because its from an old tank. HOB filter rated for 30 gal with skimmer in it. walmart heater. walmart hood( i got this tank and hood from craigslist so its a little older version of the hood but same none the least)
the light is a cheap walmart hood with 2 screw in light bulbs. i still have to pick up the bulbs i will be using. i will get 2 50/50 coralife actinic/day 10k 20 watt bulbs ill be working with 4 watt per gal on this. and the light does have some medal to reflect the light.

DAY 1: put saltwater that my LFS uses into tank. added the mudd/bacteria from the LFS tank bought for 2$. added some pesty mini stars from there tanks too. rinsed my filter media used in my FW tank, and replaced chem. media( carbon and a phosphate remover)

DAY 2: today. . did a test . PH:8.2 ammonia: .50 nitrites: .25 nitrates: 5.0-10

Let me know what you think? when you think my cycle will be done? and what corals you think would work best in this system?

Link brings up a video about diatoms in an aquarium.

Your little nano looks like it's off to a great start! I'd give it 4-6 weeks to cycle. Test every couple of days. Once your ammonia and nitrite are zero and your nitrates are down around 40ppm, go ahead and do a 20% water change. You should be able to keep any softie and maybe and some LPS.
