TruVu 100W 48"x24"x20"H thickness

Hi,

I have a TruVu 75g RR, 48 x 18 x 20, 3/8" thick wall and top, and 1/4" at bottom with two openings 17"x 8.5" each and two filter slots 12" x 2" and 10" x 2" on the top. After 4 years, other than some minor scratches, I'm pretty happy with it, no bowing that I can see.

I'm going to upgrade to TRuVu 100g 48 x 24 x 20H with two opeings 18" x 14" at the top, wider but not taller than my 75g. TruVu said it'll be the same thickness, that is 3/8" thick wall and top and 1/4" bottom.

I recall seeing some posts that said 1/2" should be used for tank larger than 100g. The price for a 1/2" goes up roughly 90% more than that of 3/8",
I guess it's probably some material cost plus that it is now a custom made and not a standard one.

http://regalplastics.net/aquarium.htm doesn't even have a width entry, although it says 0.544" for 48L and 20H.

http://garf.org/tank/BuildTank.asp says 3/8" for 48L and 20H, stays at 3/8" even I entered 100" for width.

My questions are:

1. Does width matter?
2. With same 3/8" thickness as 75g, will I see more more bowing, like I said I don't see any or not even noticble for the 75g now.

I don't want bowing, 30% - 40% more may be a easier decision to make but I don't want to spend a lot more if I don't have to.

Thanks!

Thanks poolkeeper1! I'm in California and with little kids at home. I think it's safer to stay with acrylic.

Anyone can answer my questions or there are other threads that I can post my questions.

I think with small kids youre better off with glass. Acrylic scratches very easily compared to glass. If they scratch the display youll be mad. The reason I dont like acrylic tanks is the truvu tanks have or had tendency to warp over time due to heat from metal halides. If you go with acrylic make sure you get t5s or led, anything that is low heat.
