upgrading power heads

Hello all i will be upgrading my 72 gallon bow front reef tank to a 120 gallon

the 120 if 4 feet long

i currently have 1 korilla 4 -2 korilla 3-and-1 korilla 2

i also have a rena filter that does 365 gph

i recently got a wave-master pro and was going to add 4 maxijet 1200 pumps

does anybody think this will be too much flow (or is that a stupid question)

and will the wavemaker be pointless with pumps that are running all the time(the korilla's)

i do not have any sps
my tank will be lps dominated with some soft corals

Thanks for all of the help

I think with your current setup, you should have enough flow for a 120 (esp. if only doing LPS). I personally don't like too much tank equipment in the tank and adding 4 Maxijets will definitely make it busy/clutter. Also they don't provide enough flow to warrant their cause in your setup (unless you are going to modify them, which in that case, you should get Koralia 4 evos instead).

I personally have a 125 gallon (4'x3'x16") and I have two Koralia 4's and Maxijet 1200 modified. It's plenty of flow for my FOWLR setup and I would think that's good enough if I had LPS.

You should setup and play with your current powerheads in your tank and see how the flow is first with your LPS before getting any additional powerheads. Good luck.

I run 2 Koralia 1400 Evo's on my 4ft 110gal tank 24 hours a day on a wavemakerpro, and I agree that on a 120 with soft corals, 2 would be pretty good. Plus 2 Evo's dont make a really big footprint in a tank that size.

I have a mixed tank and have 2 more Koralia 1400 Evo's kick on during mid-day, and its like a washing machine in there when all 4 are going at once (well ok a bit less than a washing machine, but I dont want any more flow than that)

I'm also going to say that your plan has too many pumps to it. If I were in your situation, I'd ditch all the current pumps and go with 3 or 4 Koralia EVO 1050's or 1400's. Either that or save up the pennies and get an MP40 or two.

I haven't gotten any of the new Koralia EVO's myself, but I'm told they can be run on a wavemaker (Please, if anybody can confirm/deny this, I'm eager to hear more). If they can be run that way, perhaps the wavemaster can drive them? The older Koralia's like you have aren't really wavemaker material unfortunately, which is one of only 2 real complaints I have with the design.

If it were me I'd do two MP40s. Too much equipment in the tank makes it look too cluttered!
