Reef Octopus NWB 110 or SWC 150 BMK for 65g
I'm currently working on my 65g build with a 20g long sump and I can't decide on a skimmer. After numerous hours of searching and reading, I've narrowed it down to two, Reef Octopus NWB 110 or SWC 150 BMK. I was looking at Bubble Magus NAC6A but the SWC looks like the same design yet with a couple of better features. I was also considering the SWC 120 cone, but with a smaller footprint, smaller pump, and a slightly smaller tank rating, is it worth the extra 25 dollars for the cone design? I want to be able to upgrade my tank later and still be able to use the skimmer i decide on. Any other skimmer suggestions? I'm hoping to keep my skimmer budget around $200. Let me know!

This really depends on what you think you may upgrade to. I try to double my water volume for my skimmer. that way if a larger upgrade happens, I'm not looking for another skimmer. The cones are very neat...nothing for the bubbles to get stuck on and interrupt the flow. The SRO line (Super Reef Octopus) of skimmers are really sweet! Offered in a cone as well as a non cone, with a nice neck taper. Very strong pump and draws a lot of air!

I have the SWC150BMK on my 40br and i really like it and think it would be great for your tank size. The swc120 would be too small

glxtrix - yea i was thinking 120g tops for a future upgrade. The SWC 150 BMK states it will handle a heavily stocked 100g. I would love an SRO but that's just a bit more than how much i want to spend on a skimmer at the moment, but I'm not ruling it out completely.
fishsuse29 - good to hear! That's when I'm leaning towards! The only reason i considered the NWB-110 is that is considerably cheaper than the SWC and it has a half cone design and that its recommended up to 100 gallons. |

yes go right pass the NWB series. these arent in the same league as BM, Vertex, SWC or SRO series as far as performance. Beyond that the NWB-110 is not nearly large enough for a future 100g and barely adequate for a 65g (you should go with the NWB-150 if you chose these). your only saving $30 over a Vertex IN100,BM NAC6 or SWC150BMK (nothing compared to the like sized NWB-150 which are all about $200) and cone like transition or not they still cant outperform any of the mentioned.

I use the NWB 100 on my 29-over-10 gallon SPS setup, and I think I agree with this. While I like this skimmer just fine, and it does a great job on my little system (of maybe 30 gallons total), I would probably want something bigger if I were in your situation. |

I have the same setup..65g with 20L sump..i went from a euroreef RS-80 which was very good..to a SRO XP-1000SSS, this skimmer at ~185 is great and really sucks out the nasties.

Yea, I've pretty much set on the SWC 150 BMK then.
Stanlalee, since you happened to mention Vertex, which do you think is the better choice for my application, the Vertex IN100 or SWC 150 BMK? |
