Toadstool Question
I just recently bought a toadstool for my 90 gallon reef. The toadstool was doing great in the store with all of the polyps out but since being in my tank the polyps have not come out yet. The Toadstool is on one of my highest rocks closer to the light. The lighting is a Nova Extreme T-5 8x54. Do you know why this happening? How can I fix this?

In my experience, toadstools are pretty hardy corals. I wouldn't worry about it if your parms are OK, maybe you should lower it in your tank where there is medium flow for a while to give it time to acclimate to your tank. Mine in right infront of a powerhead and grows out of my tank at least once a year and I have to cut the trunk in 1/2. I trim the edges a few times a year and it recoveres fairly quickly.

Toadstools / sarcophytons typically stay closed for a while after moving to a new tank. Perfectly normal behavior IME.
I would reccomend not moving it around a lot, they are adaptable to a wide range of light intensities and flow. If you keep moving it, it will keep staying closed. Be sure it's in an appropriate location, then leave it alone. Also, it's likely to go into a shed before it really opens up in the new tank. Don't worry if you see this. The top surface of the toadstool will start to look waxy/glossy over a day or three, then it will start to sloth off a thin skin all over the crown. Again, this is perfectly normal. Just don't let the slothed off skin settle on anything delicate downstream, it can be an irritant.

Thanks jimmy for the information. Do you think I should just leave the toadstool where it is at now near the top of the tank and see what happens in a week or two?

I would leave it.
That said, if you are concerned that the light where it is now is LOT brighter than what it was under before, then you could move it a bit lower in the tank then leave it there. IME you can keep a sarco directly under a 400w MH and it will grow fast, or you can keep it under as little as a couple of NO florescents and it will live but grow real slow. I have found them to be extremely adaptable.

Mine is near the top of my tank and is happy. I'd leave it there.
You may have light shocked it though by putting it under 8 bulbs. When I updated from compact fluorescents to my existing T5s I burned a piece of it. I had to knock my light cycle way down and slowly increase the on time. You may want to do something similar.

Thanks guys for the comments. I think I might let it sit where it is at for about a week and then see what happens to it. If i dont see any kind of changes I will try to move it down or just like preef said maybe cut the light back a little.
