ID Help! Poss Aiptasia-FML!

Okay- so it's Day 2 of my cycle. I've added 40+ lbs of live rock to my 55g Column style tank.

My live rock came from my lfs who cures his LR ahead of time and then puts it out in a main tub with circulating water and several fish.

I have found this on one of the rocks today when I turned on the light for the first time. I noticed algae, so I only turned the light on in order to see what was going on in the tank.

No hitchhikers that I know of, accept for this possible nuisance.

Parameters:
PH 7.5
SG: 1.025
KH: 180
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 0
Temp: 78

I'm afraid of the possible bad news. I'll pour gasoline in my tank, I SWEAR! Okay, just joking, HEHE. I know I'm not the first one, so PLEASE any advice would help!

Peace-

Looks like it could be. there are plenty of ways to get rid of it before it spreads. search Joe's juice and you should have all the info you need.

It's aiptasia all right but, no big deal at this point. Pull the rock out and use any of the many ways to get rid of the pest. I am a big fan of Kalk paste. It always works for me. Do a search and you can find lots of ways to get rid of this pest now. It is only really a problem when your reef is established and/or you have dozens of them sprouting up everywhere.

I don't even like the rock. It's 3 degrees outside here in Anchorage. Can I just put the rock outside for a day, then reintroduce it into my tank later? Or do I just take it out and run it under my sink? The rock itself isn't that heavy and probably didn't cost more than $20. Should I wait until tomorrow to run to my lfs and pick up something good and grab advice from them? As well as let them know the wonderful present they sent me home with? :-)

I would leave the rock in the tank ( or take it out for a few minutes at most), and get rid of the single anemone as mentioned above. You want to keep the rest of the micro stuff on the rock alive.

+1 on the Kalkpaste. I had a couple in my tank, and it zapped them the first time I applied it.

So it won't hurt to wait until morning to go pick up some kalkpaste? I've read good things about it.

I am just paranoid about it reproducing and jacking my tank up. Can that happen over night?

Well, at least should I feel good about things actually working in the tank to the point that lifeforms are there?

aiptasia-x from red sea works really well, as far as using the little guy as a judge for water quality i wouldn't invest too much into it they are pretty hardy

You can use boiling water, lemon juice, Joe's Juice, a kalkwasser slurry...any of those injected directly into the mouth will kill it. Don't take the rock out of the tank to do it though. The aiptasia will retreat into the rock. Just get yourself a syringe and inject it, but be quick as it will retreat at first touch.

I'd say since it's only day 2 of your cycle, take the rock out and run the spot with aptasia under some water. Scrape the nem off with the water running and call it good. You could use kalk past or another nem kill product if you want, but I'm just telling you what I would do.
