Old salt

Hey Everyone, I mixed up 30 gallons of salt water and i put the rest of my bag of tropic marin pro and it wased enough so i put two bags that make up 5 gallon each of IO salt that was hard. So after 36 hours the salt has not desolved? When salt is hard dose that mean it has gone bad? How log dose salt go bad in ?

Thanks Brian

When salt gets hard it does not dissolve properly, so you might be low on trace elements. It only gets hard when moisture gets into a bucket or bag. Some people usually toss it.

If you cannot get it to dissolve, I wouldn't put it in the tank, it more than likely won't dissolve there either. Pick up a nice air tight container of sorts to store your extra salt in, that way you won't run into that problem again. I have a big 6 quart ziploc air seal container and I have had salt in there for about a year and still looks nice and fresh, and dissolves the way it should.

Hey, thanks for all the info! Leaving the salt in the container will it go bad?

I have never had a problem leaving the salt in the container, and I have done it for years. Keeping it moisture free and in a dark cool place was my main concern.
