DIY LED on a NC28

I was thinking of trying to lower my power bill a little bit since I have a couple tanks. One tank is a NC28 that basically only has Xenia, Kenya, GSP and some misc polyps. I was gonna throw some SpS in there buy one of the fish in the tank likes to eat the skin off the SpS. Anyways, I wanted to go as minimal as I can so here is the thought.....

I have seen alot of LED builds on different sites and what not and most will go with a 24 LED build. They usually are PAR driven wanting to house SpS and what not.

Would 12 LED (5 Royal Blue, and 6 6500K 3W SEMI LED's) be enough just for a simple softie tank? I have a 150W HQI at the moment and would love to replace 150W with 36W.

Here is a rough pic of about what I am talking about. Mind you I havent even started the build yet.

This is the spacing I was thinking of trying.... I want to build them into the hood with dimmers.

Any thoughts, suggestions?

ive used a 24 led system CREE 3w with lens (60*) to grow sps (redmontipora), also had a fiji purple and 420nm to supplement, color combo on the leds were 2:1 (blue:white) at 85% power so if you're talking about 3 watt leds putting 100 lumens per watt at least at a 1:1 color combo then i dont see why that wouldnt work, post some pictures when u get it running because i want to set up my friends 28g jbj power compact tank up with 12 leds for his birthday (dont know how id fit a thick heatsink in there and put a fan not to mention the mounting troubles)

I will post some pics when I get it going. I am waiting on my drivers to get here from HK. Soon as they are here I will start the build.
