76 gallon half round build
Upgrading from my 1st saltwater tank that, (currently houses a mated pair of clown fish, 6 line wrasse, flame angel, skunk cleaner shrimp, clean up crew, and for corals some mushrooms, zoos, star polyps, oh and a rose bulb tip anemone) I started 1 year ago which was the 37 gallon eclipse 3 set up (yea the one with the mirrored back). Had some success and I am enjoying the challenges. The past year I have been doing some research (on this site mostly) and yet I am confident I am still going to make allot of mistakes, and I am looking forward to hearing about them from all of you. So here we go we are upgrading to the Oceanic 76 gallon half round ( I don't like corners, and its bigger than I thought) with a 30 gallon sump refugium (in the basement) with the eshopps float valve auto top off, Caribisea sugar fine sand bed 2"-3", Danner 18 (1800 gph) supreme mag drive pump, 2 VorTech MP10's, Reef octopus 6 150 protein skimmer, Aqua via titanium heaters x 4 100w, Aqua medic 4 pump doser (dosing salifert magnesium, salifert calcium, and salifert all in one), and the choice I am hoping wasn't the biggest mistake Aqua Ray led light bars 5 reef white and 1 reef blue.
How am I doing So far?? Last edited by Sasquatchluvin; 01/30/2011 at 11:18 PM. |

Since this was going on the breakfast bar/counter I thought it would need some support so I cut out the bottom of the cabinet ripped down some 2x6 and braced the very bottom of the cabinet. then I worked my way up into the cabinet and braced as much as I could get to with 2x4. hope it was enough.

Next we had to build a stand so I could get the overflows into the wall. I did not want to cut into the counter top so I took the long way to the basement where the sump was waiting. We used a 2x10 and cut groves every half inch, then we wet it down clamped it up and slowly applied pressure.

tank setup looks great and like the half round tank. Confused about all the plumbing lines that are not connected though; guessing they are for water changes or future equipment? How do you plan to light the tank and are you taking into account the possibility of a dark spot in the front of the tank due to your lighting?

Yes you are correct the extra plumbing is for what ever (I tend to over think and over build everything). For the lighting I was going to try the LED thing I bought some aqua ray 500/600 for the old tank because I was so limited on space, so I just bought more of them (I am in to deep with them now) I was going to start with 6 of the aqua ray 600's 5 reef white and 1 reef blue. Has any body here had any luck with them? as far as dark spots We built a fixture to hang the LED's on that extends into the front curve of the tank. I have 4 of the lights in now (while im cycling) and my only concern is the back corners. I guess if it bugs me to much I can always $$$$$$ that fixes everything right?

Update
Well just as soon as we got our fish tank up and running we decided to move. Been busy moving and getting settled, I will put the tank upstairs and the sump/fuge in the basement eventually but for now it’s all in the basement, here are some updated pics of the move. [IMG][/IMG] can't believe this thread didn't get more praise. awesome setup! is that going to serve as a bar around the tank? amazing idea. i always wished my tank was in an area that was more prone to lounge.. house is small so doesn't leave a lot to the imagination. Ok so it’s finally too cold to work outside in Colorado anymore so I have time to get back to reefing around.
ryan1985 That was my original idea to make a little bar around it, but I’m not sure if I’ve been too busy or what but we don’t spend too much time down in the basement so I’ve started the move to upstairs. Oh and it’s a pita to get in the top that’s another reason to move upstairs. So I think we have a good place to put it, between the entry and the living room, kinda central but not in the way. I used the canopy to get the shape of the tank Sheet-rocked and textured Painted and granite installed Going to try and get tank moved this weekend |

Update: We got the tank moved.
Got some new toys, My mag 18 would barely pump up to display so I replaced with the reeflo blow hole 2700. Awesome pump. Replaced lights with AI Sol Blues, I'm still ramping them up but I like them so far, I put 3 in the display but still have a little shadowing where the tank bracing is. We also got a Apex. Replaced the mp-10s with a tunze 6105. Yea it’s too much for my tank so I got a 6095 coming. Got the frag tank and sump set up but still trying to get flow to sump and frag tank where I want it, plumbing cleaned up, and still need to get stand trimmed out and everything touched up and straighten up. But at least it’s going again and I got a few small frags from the move. We did have a royal gramma jump out of the temporary tank. Last edited by Sasquatchluvin; 01/31/2013 at 01:17 AM. |
