New tank setup, Cured live rock turning white?
Tank has been set up since last Thursday... hasn't had an overdose of light or anything. I've yet to run a complete test (ph, ammonia, nitrate, nitrite), but was going to pick up a kit tomorrow barring the weather.
Anyways... a good amount of the live rock that had a purple coraline algae is now turning white. It has little fuzzies coming off it as well. Is this just part of the dying off process or should I be concerned that the levels in my tank are screwing something up? |

what is your calcium? also do you know the type of lighting the rock came form? coraline tends to bleach out with new lighting. should color back up if your cal is good

I'm pretty sure that's just die off. Did you use RO/DI to start up the tank?
You should be fine, eventually everything will color up again, just give it time. |

A lot of mine did the same thing. Just noticed today coralline spots on my powerheads, so I'm happy!

Salinity is 1.021 My filter is a penguin biowheel 350 but i did take out the biowheels before setting everything up. (Not sure if this matters but just throwing that out there) |

i bought some live rock from a 13yr old reef. all purple, they had it under t5's i have Metal halides its bleached out alittle, calcium was at 480 constantly and within a week it all came back, maybe just be your light. could just calcium buff it really quick and see if it helps. Or test your calcium and see the level and go from there

If it was exposed to air in transfer, it will often have a die off. It will come back though.
